About the role

  • Lead and develop regional managers, project managers, and plant managers responsible for operating multiple water and wastewater facilities.
  • Set clear goals, standards, and priorities for safe, compliant, and efficient operations across the portfolio.
  • Provide executive oversight for multi-site operations, guiding troubleshooting, optimization, and adoption of best practices.
  • Own P&L for the operations group, including budgeting, revenue growth, cost control, and margin improvement.
  • Drive financial accountability down to regional and project managers, ensuring they understand how to run their part of the business.
  • Build and nurture relationships with key municipal and private clients, serving as an executive-level point of contact.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities and expansions, including renewals, add-on services, and new sites.
  • Lead or support negotiations for major contracts, renewals, and pricing adjustments.
  • Partner closely with internal engineering and construction teams.
  • Represent the company in industry settings and forums, reinforcing a strong reputation in the water/wastewater community.
  • Foster a culture of professional growth, technical excellence, and leadership development.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 10+ years of experience in water or wastewater operations, including multi-site leadership and responsibility for a broad team.
  • At least 5+ years in senior-level management with P&L accountability and comfort making business decisions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience in water/wastewater operations is also acceptable.
  • Hands-on understanding of how treatment plants actually run, paired with the ability to step back and lead strategically.
  • Advanced water/wastewater operations certifications or equivalent experience in Michigan, Indiana, or comparable regulatory environments.
  • Strong client-facing skills with the ability to build trust, navigate sensitive issues, and maintain long-term relationships.
  • A collaborative, coaching leadership style that emphasizes communication, development, and shared problem-solving.
  • Ability to travel regularly within Michigan and Indiana to visit sites, meet with clients, and connect with internal teams.
