About the role

  • Support the leadership team in executing current strategy and creating innovative strategies to deliver on impact goals and theory of change
  • Provide insight, advice, governance and support to the organization with specific perspective on financials
  • Serve as a Board Member and be part of the Audit Committee
  • Review financial statements and ensure integrity and compliance with accounting standards
  • Appoint, meet with and oversee external auditors and review audit findings and audited financial statements
  • Assess organization risk profile and mitigation strategies
  • Prepare for and participate in Board meetings; represent Digital Moment at special events and in the community (mostly in Montreal)
  • Support and promote fundraising events and make introductions to CEO to help secure partnerships or funding
  • Adhere to and promote the organization's commitments to diversity, equity and inclusion

Requirements

  • Commitment of time, presence at meetings and taking action to support the work of Digital Moment (~ 2-5 hours monthly)
  • Passion for the work Digital Moment does
  • Willingness to listen to others’ views, advocate their own, identify common interests and alternatives, and to take action when needed
  • Review and monitor the integrity of financial statements, ensure compliance with accounting standards and oversee financial reporting processes and disclosures
  • Appoint, meet with and oversee external auditors, including review & approval of the audited financial statements and review audit findings
  • Assess the organization’s risk profile and mitigation strategies
  • Commitment of time for preparation and participation in Board meetings, as well representing Digital Moment at special events and in the community (mostly in Montreal)
  • Support of Digital Moment in participation and promotion of fundraising events, make introductions to Digital Moment’s CEO in hopes it leads to an important partnership or funding opportunity
  • Adhere to the full participation and understanding of the organization's commitments to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Experience with Board governance (ideally has been on a Board of Directors before and involved in Board Governance process)
  • Experience and an extensive network in the tech space
  • Experience and an extensive network in the education space
  • Strong understanding of government and ministers relations and ability to connect organization with potential opportunities
  • Strong financial literacy and understanding of financial statements
  • Experience in auditing, accounting, or financial management
  • Familiarity with internal controls, risk assessment, and compliance
  • Ideally, accounting designation
