About the role

  • Lead defined workstreams on consulting projects, interacting directly with clients and taking strategic goals from concept to well-defined implementation plans.
  • Structure ambiguous problems into hypotheses, workplans, analyses, and clear decisions; ensure high-quality delivery on scope, timeline, and budget.
  • Perform research and quantitative analyses; develop models and insights using Excel-based analysis and other tools as appropriate.
  • Facilitate and document client workshops and working sessions; align stakeholders, drive outcomes, and communicate next steps.
  • Create effective executive-ready communication material (PowerPoint storylines, reports, templates/tools) and present findings to executive and working-level audiences.
  • Support delivery across a range of rail/transit topics (e.g., operating model and performance improvement, O&M transformation, asset/fleet strategy, customer experience, stations and service delivery, commercial/revenue opportunities, and program / PMO support).
  • Leverage the knowledge and expertise of Deutsche Bahn’s railway subject matter experts (and other SMEs) in projects where applicable.
  • Bridge between technical SMEs and client decision-makers by translating specialized input into structured analyses, recommendations, and implementation roadmaps.
  • Instruct, supervise, and coach Analysts and Consultants on projects; provide guidance on both consulting methods and content.
  • Contribute to internal capability building (best practices, benchmarks, templates, and reusable methods) for rail and transit consulting.
  • Participate in preparing proposals and pursuits, including project approaches, methodologies, budgets, schedules, and written content.
  • Support development of client relationships and identify opportunities for future engagements; maintain strong client relationships.

Requirements

  • MBA, bachelor’s, or master’s degree in any discipline, with demonstrated academic excellence and the ability to learn quickly and deliver results.
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience in management consulting, internal consulting, strategy, operations improvement, project delivery, or comparable roles.
  • Prior management consulting experience is beneficial but not required if you demonstrate strong consulting fundamentals through your work.
  • Some rail and transit systems knowledge / exposure (e.g., through prior project work, employment in the rail/transit ecosystem, or sustained domain focus).
  • Outstanding analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently with an innovative and entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Strong written and verbal presentation and communication skills.
  • Experience using MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) for analysis, quantitative models, and client-ready materials.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Occasional domestic / international travel may be required.
