About the role
- Develops and executes day-to-day regulatory advocacy strategy on enterprise and state specific regulatory matters to support business goals
- Resolve high-complexity regulatory issues and escalate as appropriate
- Support legal and compliance with market conduct exam issues and advise business leadership on regulatory and political developments
- Coordinate with policy and state affairs teams to develop policy positions and execute advocacy strategy
- Facilitate positioning with national advocacy organizations and trade associations to influence their positions, tactics, and strategies
- Support greater education and understanding of industry practices at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and other venues
- Build and manage relationships with senior stakeholders in government, policymakers, regulatory agencies, trade associations, and other external stakeholders
- Represent the enterprise and its specific businesses in advocacy efforts and make internal and external written and oral presentations
- Manage external consultants supporting policy and government affairs objectives at the NAIC
- Travel up to 40% of the time, attend regulatory organization and trade association meetings throughout the year
Requirements
- 10+ years of expertise in state legislative, regulatory and/or industry experience; or any combination of education and experience
- Experience developing and managing strategic advocacy activities that achieve desired outcomes
- Experience in health care policy, insurance, pharmacy benefit management and/or healthcare issues
- Experience dealing with state regulators and other executive staff in state government
- Proven, effective oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle several complex and difficult projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Self-starter with the ability to act independently, demonstrates initiative, creative and resourceful
- Mastery of Microsoft Office products, most notably Teams, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Bachelor's Degree required in related field (Master’s Degree preferred)
- Ability to travel up to 40%, including some weekends
- Experience managing external consultants and engaging with trade associations and regulatory organizations
