About the role
- Lead and manage a team of Buyers responsible for procurement and inventory management activities.
- Provide performance management, coaching, professional development, and strategic direction to team members.
- Establish and deliver training programs to support continued development of the buying team.
- Drive procurement strategies aligned with company goals and customer service objectives.
- Monitor key metrics such as fill rates, aged inventory, GMROI, and ROA to ensure optimal inventory performance.
- Analyze inventory trends and guide Buyers in identifying cost-saving opportunities while maintaining service levels.
- Collaborate with internal teams to manage slow-moving or obsolete inventory.
- Gather and analyze sales forecasts to support effective procurement planning.
- Serve as a key liaison between procurement, sales, customer service, and distribution center teams.
- Resolve internal process issues related to procurement and inventory management.
- Partner with transportation and logistics teams to identify cost-effective freight and stocking strategies.
- Lead supplier performance monitoring, evaluations, and improvement initiatives.
- Identify and resolve supplier performance or service level issues.
- Maintaining supplier data integrity and pricing information within internal systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 6+ years of experience in purchasing, inventory control, or supply chain management within a sales or distribution environment.
- 3+ years of supervisory or leadership experience managing procurement or supply chain teams.
- Familiarity with procurement or MRP systems (experience with MXP or similar systems preferred).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other business tools.
- Strong knowledge of supply chain management principles including inventory planning, procurement, and supplier management.
- Experience analyzing inventory and procurement data to drive operational improvements.
- Ability to manage supplier relationships and negotiate effectively with vendors.
- Experience working within distribution, logistics, or warehouse environments.
- Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting supply chain metrics and financial data.
