Attorney

• Respond to a high-volume legal information hotline by conducting client intakes, accurately coding services, and providing accurate legal information to callers
• Provide legal information and education to self-represented litigants, primarily in unlawful detainer and housing matters, through structured interviews and direct assistance in a fast-paced environment
• Review and assess self-prepared legal documents and pleadings submitted by self-represented litigants and provide appropriate legal information and guidance
• Supervise Self-Help staff and contribute to the overall work of the Self-Help Unit, including assisting with the provision of legal information in other civil legal matters as needed
• Provide legal analysis and conduct factual and legal research to support Self-Help paralegals, intake staff, and volunteers in delivering accurate legal information and education to litigants
• Interview litigants and communicate legal information effectively, ensuring clarity and professionalism
• Review and assess self-prepared legal documents, including pleadings, memoranda, correspondence, and related materials
• Supervise and direct the legal work of paralegals, law students, interns, and volunteers, and participate in community outreach and education as needed
• Work with a multicultural perspective
• Perform other duties as required to meet the needs of the organization

Attorney – Self Help Tenant Hotline

Manager

• Provide holistic case management services to CLA SoCal legal services clients.
• Conduct bio-psycho-social assessments and develop individualized case plans based on client needs.
• Maintain regular contact with clients, providing emotional support during legal proceedings and brief crisis intervention as needed.
• Build and maintain rapport with clients, legal teams, and community partners, providing trauma-informed guidance and consultation.
• Identify gaps in community services, contribute to service development, and evaluate the availability and effectiveness of supportive services.
• Provide case management perspective trauma responsive education to the legal team.

Case Manager

Paralegal

• Maintain caseload of immigration cases including but not limited to Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, Asylum, Naturalization, U-Visa, T-Visa, VAWA Self-Petition, and Adjustment of Status, under attorney supervision.
• Dependent on grant, assist with grant reporting and tracking grant deliverables.
• Prepare legal work and maintain client files both electronically and/or physically under the supervision of an attorney.
• Assist attorney with intake and initial client appointments, case investigation, witness interviews, factual and legal research.
• Interview clients effectively and efficiently communicate with clients including accurately relaying legal advice provided by the attorney.
• Prepare legal forms, pleadings, memoranda, correspondence and other legal documents and assist with checking citations, record-keeping, document copying, e-Filing, etc.
• Observe confidentiality of attorney-client relationship.
• Maintain calendar and deadline systems and provide interpretation and translation when qualified.
• Work with a multi-cultural perspective, including community groups, conduct outreach, and provide community education presentations and materials.
• Work with and mentor paralegal and law students from local law schools, colleges and community colleges.
• May be required to work at clinics and/or workshops located in local courts, CLA SoCal offices, or at partner agencies.
• Perform other duties as required to meet the needs of the organization.

Paralegal, Spanish Bilingual – Immigration

• Provide representation to qualified immigrants in a variety of immigration cases
• Maintain caseload of immigration cases under attorney supervision, including grant reporting
• Prepare legal work and maintain client files under the supervision of an attorney
• Assist attorney with intake and initial client appointments, case investigation, and legal research
• Prepare legal forms, pleadings, correspondence, and assist with document-filing
• Work with and mentor paralegal and law students the local community

Staff Attorney, Immigration

• Provide litigation support and manage an individual caseload under attorney supervision, including motion practice, negotiations, settlements, trials, and client advocacy in consumer defense matters
• Interview, advise, and represent clients on debt collection, credit reporting, and related consumer issues using trauma-informed approaches
• Engage in community outreach and education by leading “Know Your Rights” workshops, educating homeowners on protecting home equity, and collaborating with community groups and coalitions focused on consumer and financial justice
• Develop and deploy multilingual educational materials and social media campaigns to expand consumer awareness and protect vulnerable homeowners
• Interview and communicate with clients effectively and empathetically while maintaining detailed, accurate case notes and timekeeping in Legal Server
• Conduct case investigations, witness interviews, and thorough factual and legal research to support effective advocacy
• Draft pleadings, motions, memoranda, correspondence, and other legal documents in consumer defense matters
• Collaborate with community organizations, conduct outreach and education, and coordinate wrap-around legal services with CLA SoCal’s other legal units
• Work with a multicultural perspective of inclusion
