About the role
- Perform testing that retires risks for CFS’s HTS magnets and magnet components
- Create test articles from existing designs and define tests to validate critical requirements
- Execute experiments, collect and analyze data to validate designs
- Work in lab/manufacturing environments with attention to safety and industrial hazard mitigation
- Collaborate with engineering teams and contribute to meaningful technical projects during a 12–16 week internship
- Work 40–50 hours per week with set hourly salary based on year in school
Requirements
- Pursuing an engineering degree with focus in the fields of Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Opportunities available for currently enrolled college students in all levels of schooling from bachelor’s degree to PhD
- Fundamental understanding of mechanical, electrical, and materials engineering; familiarity with experimentation and data analysis
- Composites experience
- Experience with superconductors and/or the technology that surrounds them; high vacuum, cryogenics, high power systems
- High self-motivation, drive to execute quickly, and excellent troubleshooting/problem-solving skills
- Demonstration of exceptional results through a range of different pursuits
- Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
- Ability to perform activities such as typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time
- Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenics
- Interns must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer
- If on site, responsible for own transportation and housing
