Mentoring and Collaboration: Acts as a thought leader and mentor within the documentation team—guiding junior and mid-level writers through complex projects. Provides strategic peer reviews, elevates writing quality, and fosters strong cross-functional partnerships with product, UX, engineering, and support teams. Influences product design and development by advocating for user documentation needs.
User-Centric Feedback Integration: Leads efforts to systematically gather, analyze, and act on customer and field feedback. Partners with UX research and customer success to identify trends, pain points, and opportunities to improve documentation. Uses data and insights to shape documentation strategy, ensuring measurable improvements in user experience and product adoption.
Project Management: Takes ownership of complex documentation initiatives that span multiple product areas or releases. Develops and manages project plans, establishes priorities, and aligns deliverables with organizational milestones. Proactively manages shifting priorities, risks, and dependencies, while ensuring timely, high-quality outcomes.
Requirements
A Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, Communications, Computer Science, or a related field (Master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred).
7+ years of experience in technical writing or related roles, with a proven track record of producing high-impact documentation for complex software products.
Expertise in industry-standard tools (e.g., MadCap Flare, Git, Markdown, XML/DITA, Confluence), with the ability to evaluate and introduce new tools and workflows to improve team efficiency.
Familiarity with Agile and DevOps environments, and the ability to integrate documentation processes seamlessly into iterative development cycles.
Strong project leadership abilities, including planning, prioritizing, and delivering documentation projects that span multiple product lines or cross-functional teams.
A demonstrated ability to ramp up quickly on complex technologies, with the analytical skills to translate technical details into clear, accessible content for diverse audiences.
A keen eye for detail coupled with a strategic perspective—balancing precision with usability, scalability, and long-term content strategy.
Experience mentoring other writers, reviewing their work, and contributing to the overall growth and maturity of the documentation function.
