About the role

  • Substantively advancing CIVIC’s objectives, leading policy engagement with UN bodies, member states, and key stakeholders
  • Building and leading civil society coalitions
  • Participating in UN- and member state-led working groups
  • Feeding into key UN policy processes and debates on POC
  • Shaping thematic issues related to POC at the UN
  • Representing CIVIC at multilateral and bilateral meetings with UN, member state, and NGO stakeholders, and in the POC Week Steering Committee
  • Researching and drafting substantial portions of CIVIC's flagship POC Trends Report by tracking and analyzing global civilian harm trends in 2025
  • Conducting desk research on specific protection issues and countries of concern
  • Liaising with CIVIC staff and partners to coordinate contributions
  • Supporting efforts to strengthen the protection of civilians through UN and AU peacekeeping
  • Conceptualizing and organizing events, briefings, roundtables, and other private and public activities to advance program objectives
  • Support administrative and program management tasks, including internal reporting, and other general duties assigned by senior managers

Requirements

  • Minimum of an MA, MS, or JD
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience, including proven subject matter expertise in protection of civilians, peace operations, or related issues
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information and translate findings into actionable advocacy and policy recommendations
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, both orally and in writing, including drafting reports, talking points, research inputs, briefs, and policy analysis for diverse audiences
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple portfolios and competing priorities
  • Ability to interact professionally and build relationships with a wide range of individuals inside and outside the organization
  • Personal qualities of resourcefulness, diligence, tact, confidentiality, and integrity
  • English proficiency
  • Valid authorization to be contracted as a consultant in New York City, New York, United States of America
