About the role
- Substantively advancing CIVIC’s objectives, leading policy engagement with UN bodies, member states, and key stakeholders
- Building and leading civil society coalitions
- Participating in UN- and member state-led working groups
- Feeding into key UN policy processes and debates on POC
- Shaping thematic issues related to POC at the UN
- Representing CIVIC at multilateral and bilateral meetings with UN, member state, and NGO stakeholders, and in the POC Week Steering Committee
- Researching and drafting substantial portions of CIVIC's flagship POC Trends Report by tracking and analyzing global civilian harm trends in 2025
- Conducting desk research on specific protection issues and countries of concern
- Liaising with CIVIC staff and partners to coordinate contributions
- Supporting efforts to strengthen the protection of civilians through UN and AU peacekeeping
- Conceptualizing and organizing events, briefings, roundtables, and other private and public activities to advance program objectives
- Support administrative and program management tasks, including internal reporting, and other general duties assigned by senior managers
Requirements
- Minimum of an MA, MS, or JD
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience, including proven subject matter expertise in protection of civilians, peace operations, or related issues
- Excellent research and analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information and translate findings into actionable advocacy and policy recommendations
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, both orally and in writing, including drafting reports, talking points, research inputs, briefs, and policy analysis for diverse audiences
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple portfolios and competing priorities
- Ability to interact professionally and build relationships with a wide range of individuals inside and outside the organization
- Personal qualities of resourcefulness, diligence, tact, confidentiality, and integrity
- English proficiency
- Valid authorization to be contracted as a consultant in New York City, New York, United States of America
