About the role

  • Deliver efficient, day‑to‑day People administration across the employee lifecycle.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and ensure data integrity across systems, including BrightHR.
  • Support the Finance team by providing accurate and timely payroll‑related information.
  • Manage full‑cycle recruitment through Recruitee, supporting City Science’s goal of eliminating external agencies.
  • Lead advertising, screening, interviewing and offer processes.
  • Support onboarding to ensure a smooth and positive new‑starter experience.
  • Provide balanced, supportive guidance to employees and managers on a range of People matters.
  • Assist with employee relations concerns in a fair, pragmatic and solution‑focused manner.
  • Contribute to wellbeing initiatives and help foster a positive, supportive culture.
  • Coach and empower line managers to build confidence and capability in handling day‑to‑day People matters.
  • Encourage proactive, developmental approaches that reduce dependency on the People team.
  • Support the development and refinement of People processes that suit a fast‑growing, scaling organisation.
  • Identify improvement opportunities that are efficient, practical and appropriate for where the organisation is today.
  • Help build a People function that is fit‑for‑purpose rather than overly policy‑driven or bureaucratic.
  • Work closely with and support the Head of People on development projects, people initiatives and process improvements as and when required, contributing to both strategic and operational progress.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting a similar sized organisation, either in a small People team or in a standalone role.
  • Ability to work autonomously, using initiative and sound judgement without step by step guidance.
  • Comfortable managing shifting priorities and working at pace in a dynamic environment.
  • Professional, intuitive and supportive, with strong people skills.
  • A “doer” mindset—efficient, proactive and improvement focused.
  • Broad HR generalist experience (not a single specialism background).
  • Strong IT skills, with experience using HR/ATS systems (BrightHR and Recruitee advantageous).
  • CIPD qualification not required; equivalent professional experience is more valuable.
