About the role
- Provide support to Airfield Manager on safe airfield operating conditions and provide technical expertise for all phases of programmed airfield construction and maintenance projects
- Provide support in all facets of airfield inspections and the determination of actions to be taken
- Review completed work based on knowledge of airfield maintenance and safety standards and provide findings and recommendations to the Airfield Manager and Operations Officer
- Support new requirements for major and minor airfield improvement projects including submitting work requests, assisting in preparing funding justification, reviewing design-engineering plans, monitoring progress, and providing recommendations during final inspections
- Monitor airfield areas daily via direct visual inspection to prevent unsafe conditions and ensure continued use of facilities
- Determine hazards to personnel proposing work on the airfield, record unsafe activities and events/conditions conflicting with the client’s operations instructions
- Coordinate with Public Works to establish schedules to control height of vegetation on the airfield and around airfield lighting
- Provide input on policies for establishment and improvement of airfield support activities and airfield management procedures
- Participate in development and application of base-wide operations plans supporting wartime operations, contingencies, aircraft accidents, and natural disasters
- Participate in the airfield Foreign Object Damage (FOD) program and support evaluation of waivers that affect the airfield and flying operations; assist in preparation of weekly FOD sweeping schedule for Government approval
- Support implementation and maintenance of a Bird Aircraft Strike Hazard (BASH) Program in compliance with NAVFAC P-73 and related instructions
- Provide technical assistance to the Aviation Safety Office (ASO) concerning accidents, incidents, and hazards
- In absence of the Airfield Manager, act as liaison to the OPSO or ASO with other armed forces, foreign military, and civilian counterparts
- Attend all security planning board meetings affecting airfield operations and provide information to the client’s Security Officer or Operations Officer
- Communicate with flying tenants to develop understanding of flight line support requirements and assist tenant commands with flight line facilities issues
- Identify need for special projects, initiate milestones and goals, and participate in briefings and recommendations to Operations Officer and Air Operations Officer
- Potential travel off-site to attend airfield management training, workshops, or informational meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Eight (8) years of experience as Airfield Manager for Department of Defense Employee with USAF 1C771/1C791 (Enlisted) experience; Employee with USAF 13MX (Officer) experience; Employee with USN Air Operations Officer with aviation experience; Employee with U.S. Army 15P30 or higher Air Operations Experience
- One (1) year of experience as Airfield Manager for Department of Defense Employee with two (2) years USAF 1C751 (Enlisted) experience
- An active DOD SECRET clearance or ability to obtain no later than 15 calendar days prior to commencing Period of Performance
- Department of Defense Advanced Airfield Managers Course graduate (considered advantageous)
- Demonstrated expert knowledge of military airfield functions
- Demonstrated expert knowledge of UFC, ICAO, and FAA Circular Guideline
- Demonstrated informational briefing and presentation skills to large groups and senior level officers
- Must be able to pass a background check; may require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment
- Interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate in a clear, professional, and articulate manner

- Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver position papers
- Proficient in MS Office, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel
