About the role
- Research, write, edit, and produce technical documentation such as system manuals, user guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and other deliverables
- Convert complex technical concepts into user-friendly language tailored to the target audience
- Develop supporting assets, including diagrams, graphics, and charts, to enhance content readability and comprehension
- Partner with engineers, developers, SMEs, and project managers to gather input and ensure accuracy of technical content
- Participate in document reviews and incorporate feedback from stakeholders to refine content
- Act as a communication bridge between technical and non-technical teams to ensure alignment
- Contribute to the development of government proposals, compliance documentation, and contractual responses (e.g., RFPs, RFQs, RFIs)
- Write, organize, and format technical sections of proposals to ensure clarity, compliance, and persuasiveness
- Draft technical reports, meeting minutes, and progress documentation as required by project milestones
- Proofread and edit documentation for grammar, punctuation, consistency, and adherence to style guides
- Ensure all deliverables comply with organizational policies, industry standards, and any applicable regulations (e.g., FAR requirements, Section 508 accessibility standards)
- Maintain version control of documents and ensure updates are distributed appropriately
- Establish and maintain documentation templates, standards, and style guidelines
- Suggest improvements to document development processes and practices to enhance efficiency
- Stay updated on trends in technical writing and incorporate best practices into deliverables
- Organize and manage documentation repositories, ensuring materials are stored, updated, and retrievable
- Implement content management systems to streamline documentation workflows
- Track document changes and manage revisions to ensure deliverables remain current
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s-level degree from a recognized college or university
- Alternatively, qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis
- If no degree is obtained, 6 years of experience is required
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience performing IT technical writing
- Experience can include being in a position as a specialist or research assistant in a technical field
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience and expert-level skill in developing technical documentation
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in supporting the development of Request for Proposal (RFP) solicitations, Request for Information (RFI) solicitations, and other solicitation documents for IT projects
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate in a clear, professional, and articulate manner
- Strong customer service skills
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with high-level attention to detail
- Ability to analyze systems and procedures
- Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple design streams across concurrent work effort
- Must be self-motivated and able to work well independently as well as on a multi-functional team
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
