About the role
- Develop comprehensive architectural solutions that align with business objectives and technical requirements
- Create and maintain detailed architectural documentation, including system design diagrams and data flow models
- Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and meet performance and reliability standards
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies, frameworks, and tools to enhance system capabilities
- Support efforts to modernise legacy systems or address technical debt where needed
- Technical Leadership & Collaboration
- Collaborate with Tech Leads and engineering teams to guide implementation and resolve technical challenges
- Provide hands-on support during critical phases of project delivery to ensure alignment with architectural standards
- Partner with product, design, and business teams to understand requirements and translate them into technical designs
- Communicate technical concepts and trade-offs effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Engage with other Solutions Architects to maintain architectural standards and drive consistency and efficiency across the organisation in partnership with the Director of Architecture
- Risk Management & Operations
- Identify risks, dependencies, and technical bottlenecks, proposing mitigation strategies as needed
- Monitor the growth and scale of underlying services and platforms, engaging with DevOps to maintain them via an agreed upon archiving and backup procedure
- Participate in production support and contribute to operational excellence
Requirements
- 7+ years of software engineering experience with strong architectural background
- Proven track record of designing and delivering scalable, distributed systems
- Deep understanding of microservices architecture, event-driven systems, and cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
- Experience with Java, Spring Framework, and modern backend technologies
- Strong knowledge of system integration patterns, API design, and data architecture
- Experience working in Agile environments and collaborating across multiple teams
- Technical Skills
- Expertise in architectural patterns and best practices
- Strong understanding of security, performance, and reliability principles
- Experience with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines
- Knowledge of messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ) and database technologies (SQL/NoSQL)
- Familiarity with infrastructure as code and DevOps practices
