About the role
- Responsible for the development and implementation of laboratory policies, processes and procedures to ensure efficiency and safety in all laboratory operations
- Provide inputs on laboratory capabilities to assist regional management in creating local / regional marketing and business development strategies
- Continuously seek opportunities to enhance laboratory capabilities and capacity with a view of continual improvement and present relative strategies to regional management
- Oversee laboratory stock requirements ensuring the suitability and availability of equipment, consumables, stock levels, change of supplier or particular resources for the lab
- Manage Laboratory budgeting, forecasting, and cost management ensuring that the Laboratory operates within its financial constraints
- Responsible for planning preventive and scheduled maintenance and ensuring any service requests are completed as per operational requirements
- Review and resolve performance, process, quality and technical related issues arising within the laboratory and implement preventive actions as and when required, and raise unresolved concerns to relevant stakeholders for resolution
- Lead the laboratory team and provide technical support in data analysis and reporting whilst ensuring compliance with quality standards
- Provide guidance and assistance to the laboratory team concerning work methods, the use of equipment and techniques including method development and validation, uncertainty of measurements, and participate in proficiency testing programmes (PTP)
- Coach, lead and manage the performance of team members by helping them overcome professional challenges in order to accomplish their responsibilities in an accurate and efficient manner
- Set and agree individual goals for all direct reports and evaluate individual performance providing regular feedback and coaching in line with the company’s people management practices
- Provide inputs on laboratory capabilities to assist regional management in creating local / regional marketing and business development strategies
- Participate in the development of quotations, bids and technical evaluation to support the tendering and procurement process
- Define operational targets for the Laboratories
- Ensure compliance with all relevant (internal and external) regulations including QHSSE requirements using company policies and procedures as appropriate
- Implement quality assurance processes to maintain high service standards
Requirements
- Bachelor's in Chemistry
- Experience in minerals laboratories for Au and ICP required
- Au by Fire Assay and ICP-OES at a minimum and ICP-MS experience ideally
