About the role
- Develop and execute multi-year cloud strategy aligned with business and technology goals, and influence budget, investment priorities, and enterprise roadmap decisions
- Mentor and grow the team with multiple cloud and SRE engineers/architects
- Provide operational direction to internal staff and outsourcing partners
- Accountability for cloud lifecycle management, including planning, design, automation, and optimization with enterprise-wide impact
- Partner with senior leadership to influence priorities and drive impactful cloud solutions, and act as a key decision maker for cloud governance and standards
- Translate business objectives into measurable outcomes in agility, cost efficiency, and innovation
- Drive and mature cloud cost optimization practices, leading cloud financial governance, forecasting, consumption modeling and reporting
- Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to guide/inform adoption strategies
- Lead cloud steering committees and cross functional working groups to align initiatives and to define and enforce enterprise cloud governance, policies, and compliance standards
- Design, implement, and maintain secure, resilient cloud infrastructure, leading the implementation and management of well-architected landing zones with appropriate guardrails
- Integrate cloud services with CI/CD pipelines and container orchestration platforms and provide strategic input to Platform Engineering capabilities
- Champion automation first practices and frameworks for provisioning, deployment, and monitoring
- Lead cloud lifecycle planning, modernization, and migration efforts for large scale initiatives
- Document architecture, processes, procedures, and project plans
- Oversee cloud security, compliance, and BCDR planning in coordination with cybersecurity and DR teams
- Build, mature, evolve modern cloud DevSecOps and SRE practices and capabilities
- Implement identity management policies and access controls integrated with enterprise system, ensuring effective governance and risk reduction
- Define and monitor KPIs for operations, cost, security, performance, and availability
- Manage and evaluate service providers to ensure reliable cloud operations
- Ensure adherence to regulatory and industry standards (e.g., NIST, CMMC)
- Partner with cross functional teams across software engineering, cybersecurity, architecture, data, and IT operations to drive modernization and ensure efficient, effective delivery
- Identify and mitigate regulatory, operational, and financial risks related to cloud adoption, communicating status to leadership
- Clearly communicate technical solutions, risks, and options to stakeholders and leadership, with ability to influence decisions
- Deliver training and guidance on cloud best practices and lead enterprise cloud enablement programs
- Supervise team members, including hiring, and performance management
- Allocate resources effectively and manage multiple concurrent projects
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- 12+ years of relevant experience, with 5+ years in a direct leadership role
- Demonstrated ability to own and resolve complex problems that require extensive investigation and analysis
- Demonstrated ability to influence others to accept practices and approaches, and ability to communicate and influence executive leadership
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Effective written and verbal communication, with the ability to simplify complex systems
- Demonstrated success in leading complex migration programs and cross-functional initiatives
- Experience with ITIL processes and tools such as ServiceNow
- Strong understanding of networking, security protocols, system administration and cloud compliance
- Hands-on experience with cloud architecture, virtualization, and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation)
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD, containerization, and orchestration tools (e.g. Github, Azure DevOps, AKS)
- Advanced experience with hybrid and multi-cloud environments, preferably Azure and AWS
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., ELK, Azure Monitor, New Relic)
