About the role
- Assist in overall supervision and administration of safety for Business Unit projects to maintain a safe and healthy work environment
- Manage project safety efforts to prevent accidents and injuries and communicate safety conditions to HSE Director and Business Unit supervision
- Oversee staff of HSE professionals and ensure consistent direction with Corporate HSE strategy and vision
- Provide HSE leadership and direction to staff and region consistent with Corporate expectations
- Maintain broad knowledge of local, state and federal regulations and relevant environmental laws
- Receive complaints, investigate safety concerns, and document investigations
- Serve as main point of contact for workplace injuries, accident investigations and near-misses within region
- Visit sites regularly to conduct jobsite inspections and ensure implementation of safety policies and procedures
- Participate in developing and conducting field safety orientation training
- Ensure inspection of machinery, equipment, and working conditions for regulatory compliance and safe work practices
- Observe workers for compliance with regulatory requirements and company expectations
- Conduct audits and assessments to capture leading indicators and distribute results and corrective actions
- Conduct accident investigations to establish root cause and recommend preventive measures
- Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and updated in a timely fashion
- Represent the Company in meetings with government bodies and other agencies on workplace health and safety
- Maintain knowledge in OSHA CFR-29 1926 Construction, 1910 General Industry, and ANSI standards
- Oversee regional HSE communications, drug testing policy, and document training delivered
- Coordinate or deliver basic first aid skills, CPR, and prevention of workplace accidents
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related technical field
- 10 years of previous experience leading HSE for a regional organization, MEP construction
- OSHA Outreach Trainer
- First Aid, CPR, and AED Trainer
- Working knowledge of government regulations, hazard control methods, and industrial hygiene
- Demonstrated ability to conduct training and influence organizational behavior
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment
- Versed in the industry and the Company's competitors
- Ability to multitask and perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary
- Preferred: BCSP certification(s): CSP, ASP, GSP, OHST, CHST
- Travel Requirements: 25-40% travel to job site(s)/office location
- Physical demands: light work up to 20 pounds; repeating motions; prolonged standing or sitting; climbing stairs
