About the role
- Owns the design, deployment, and continuous evolution of the GIE Program Management governance model across the Medical Segment, ensuring consistency, transparency, and accountability in how work is prioritized and executed
- Accountable for end‑to‑end portfolio delivery across capacity, sustaining, compliance, safety, digitalization, architecture, NPD, CTW, crisis response, retrofit, and facilities initiatives, ensuring commitments are met on time, within scope, and within approved CAPEX/OPEX funding
- Drives disciplined execution through rigorous planning, phase‑gate management, and performance tracking, ensuring measurable outcomes aligned to business priorities
- Owns financial performance of the portfolio, optimizing capital deployment, proactively managing risk, and addressing cost, schedule, and technical challenges
- Uses KPIs and operational insights to course‑correct quickly and ensure delivery of results that matter to the business and patients we serve
- Lead senior cross‑functional program reviews to drive alignment, trade‑off decisions, and investment recommendations
- Influences and aligns senior leaders across engineering, manufacturing, finance, procurement, and quality without direct authority, operating effectively in a global matrix environment
- Communicates clearly and transparently, ensuring leaders have the insights required to make informed, timely decisions
- Builds a high‑performing program management organization through direct and dotted‑line leadership of PMO managers and project managers
- Establishes clear expectations, develops talent, and fosters engagement by creating clarity, accountability, and a shared sense of purpose
- Coaches leaders and teams to strengthen enterprise thinking, execution discipline, and continuous improvement capabilities, aligned with BD’s commitment to learning and development
- Leads proactive risk identification and problem‑solving at the point of execution, ensuring issues are addressed early and effectively
- Drives structured post‑project reviews, capturing lessons learned and best practices to improve future performance
- Evaluates and integrates emerging program management tools, technologies, and ways of working to enhance industrialization outcomes and CAPEX effectiveness
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred)
- MBA or Master’s degree in Engineering preferred
- Minimum ten (10) years of progressively responsible engineering and leadership experience, with a proven track record in capital project and program management
- Operations and/or advanced manufacturing experience preferred
- PMP certification preferred; demonstrated Lean manufacturing experience
- Enterprise-minded, customer-focused leader who thrives in complex, fast-changing environments
- Proven ability to lead large, cross-functional programs and influence senior stakeholders without direct authority
- Demonstrated success driving clarity through ambiguity, managing conflict constructively, and delivering results in global matrix organizations
- Strong executive communication, facilitation, and decision-shaping skills
- Ability to operate effectively in multicultural, global environments; willingness to travel internationally up to 30%
