About the role

  • The Vice President, Environmental & Subsurface Resource Management provides the strategic direction, planning, and organizational leadership for the Environmental & Subsurface Resource Management Department at the BCER.
  • Responsible for setting strategic direction, driving program delivery, and ensuring the effective stewardship of environmental, subsurface, and heritage resources in support of the BCER’s regulatory mandate.
  • Leads multidisciplinary professional teams and ensures departments have the appropriate technical expertise, governance frameworks, and capacity to meet current and emerging regulatory requirements.
  • Represents the BCER with senior external partners and provides trusted advice to executives, the Commissioner, and the Board of Directors.

Requirements

  • Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a related field, such as Science, Engineering, Geoscience, Environmental or Resource Management, and at least ten years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior leadership or management role in a related technical or regulatory field.
  • Demonstrated experience providing strategic leadership in complex, technical, and regulatory environments.
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining effective working relationships with senior leaders across industry, government, Indigenous Nations, and stakeholder organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying legislation, regulations, and policy frameworks in a regulatory context.
  • Demonstrated experience navigating complex, sensitive, and contentious issues, including negotiation, conflict resolution, mediation, and issues management.
  • Demonstrated experience leading organizational change and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience developing industry standards, regulatory frameworks, policy, and/or regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or participating in collaborative, multi-stakeholder working groups within the energy sector.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing multidisciplinary professional teams, including workforce planning and succession management.
  • Demonstrated experience applying high level decision making across policy, legislative, and operational contexts.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying and managing risk, assessing options, and providing sound, defensible recommendations.
