About the role
- Reporting to the Head of Finance and serving as the first accounting hire at Baseten
- Lead and build the accounting function, overseeing all reporting, processes, controls, and systems
- Build and grow disciplines including Financial Reporting, Technical Accounting, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Corporate Accounting and Consolidations, Treasury, Equity and Tax
- Execute Baseten’s first annual audit: develop accounting policies and work with auditor
- Own and optimize the month-end, quarter-end, and annual close processes, ensuring GAAP compliance and accurate internal/external reporting
- Oversee general accounting processes and general ledger activities, including review and documentation of journal entries and account reconciliations, financial operations, and tax compliance
- Independently manage external audits and ongoing compliance
- Ensure the accounting function has the appropriate tech stack and internal processes to scale with the business
- Implement systems to improve efficiency, shorten close cycles, and support growth with scalable, automated processes
- Hire, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting
- CPA required
- 10-15 years of accounting experience across Big 4 and industry; high-growth startup or tech industry experience is preferred
- Usage based revenue experience preferred
- Positions of increasing responsibility and scope, with exposure to broad accounting and functional responsibilities
- Deep experience shaping accounting policies and procedures and technical knowledge of GAAP
- Demonstrated ability to implement and use Netsuite and other financial systems such as billing and AP platforms
- Excellent communications skills (oral and written) and ability to convey complex accounting matters to various stakeholders, including senior executives
- Detail-oriented and hands-on
