About the role
- Optimize reactor operations: plan/manage daily reactor schedules, allocate labor and materials, and ensure efficient process execution to meet production goals
- Improve and maintain a safe, compliant work environment by enforcing EH&S policies, conducting safety audits, addressing hazards, and ensuring compliance with chemical manufacturing regulations including OSHA PSM
- Ensure consistent product quality and compliance by collaborating with Quality and R&D, monitoring in-process parameters, and resolving deviations to meet specifications
- Lead and develop production team: coach supervisors and operators, conduct performance reviews, and foster accountability, teamwork, and skill growth across shifts
- Drive continuous improvement using Lean, Six Sigma, and TPM to reduce waste, improve yield, and enhance equipment reliability
- Manage maintenance coordination for reactor equipment: prioritize work orders, align with engineering on repairs and upgrades, and ensure preventive maintenance schedules
- Monitor and control departmental budgets by tracking labor, material, and maintenance costs and identifying cost-saving opportunities
- Coordinate cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Engineering, and Plant Management to support plant-wide efficiency and communicate operational status
Requirements
- BS degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent required
- 7+ years progressive experience in chemical manufacturing operations management
- 3+ years in a process engineering role (preferred)
- Experience in continuous-run reactor environments (preferred)
- Deep understanding of chemical process operations, unit operations, reaction kinetics, and process control systems
- Proficiency in ERP systems (JDE-E1 most desirable) and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong knowledge of DCS and SCADA process control systems
- Familiarity with OSHA 1910.119 PSM and safety frameworks (HAZOP, LOPA, MOC)
- Understanding of maintenance and reliability practices for process equipment
- Ability to work in a chemical plant environment with required PPE
- Occasional off-hours presence for continuous operational support
- Proven ability to lead small-to-moderate teams in a high-hazard production environment
- Skilled in decision-making under pressure and strong problem-solving abilities
- Effective communicator with ability to influence across functions
- Proficiency in Lean, Six Sigma, or TPM (preferred)
