• Own the development of vehicle power electronics from clean sheet to flight. For example: solar power conversion, battery management systems, power distribution and load management, voltage regulators, etc

Principal Power Electrical Engineer

Hardware Engineer

• Own and define the vehicle system FPGA related architectures, standards, practices, processes, tools, etc.
• Develop system digital computing architectures and requirements in collaboration with other engineering disciplines including defining HW/SW interfaces between fabric logic and processing subsystems.
• Lead the FPGA Engineering team of 3+ people in the development and delivery of Astrolab FPGA RTL design and verification.
• Support FPGA Engineering direct reports through their technical work, performance evaluations, and career growth.
• Own unit level RTL development from blank sheet to flight for Microsemi, Xilinx, or other FPGA or SoC devices in either Verilog or VHDL.
• Perform design verification including simulations, test benches, timing analysis, and hardware testing.
• Lead design reviews, demonstrate requirement traceability, and create documentation for FPGA operation and interfacing with other SW and FPGA systems.
• Lead and participate in test campaigns ranging from unit level manual tests, unit automated tests, and system level tests.

Lead FPGA Engineer

• Own mixed signal PCBA development from clean sheet through qualification and flight
• Define requirements, architectures, and con ops in collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams
• Perform schematic capture and PCB layout of complex power, digital, and analog circuit PCBAs using Altium Designer
• Design analysis, including power, size, mass, Monte Carlo tolerances, signal integrity, and reliability-related.
• Lead PCBA design verification testing, qualification testing, and system integration efforts
• Drive and present design reviews for interdisciplinary audiences, providing technical leadership and clear trade recommendations
• Support manufacturing, environmental testing, and flight operations as needed

Staff Mixed Signal Electrical Engineer

• Own the Electrical Power Subsystem (EPS) of Astrolab Rovers including the subsystem architecture, requirements, design, analysis, testing, delivery, and operation of power generation, storage, and distribution electronics for the vehicle
• Lead the Power Electrical Engineering team of 4+ people in the development and delivery of power system components including solar arrays, batteries, power conversion and distribution, and motor controller electronics
• Support Power EE direct reports through their technical work, performance evaluations, and career growth
• Own the vehicle Power Budget including system loads, sizing of the solar array and battery pack, and operational power modes

Lead Power System Electrical Engineer

Full-stack Engineer

• Own the GNC systems that enable Astrolab’s rovers to operate safely and effectively in extreme environments
• Lead technical strategy and execution across guidance, navigation, control, and perception while managing and mentoring a high-performing engineering team
• Set system vision, make critical design decisions, drive execution, and ensure autonomy systems perform reliably on flight-ready vehicles operating on the lunar surface
• Lead the design, verification, validation, testing, and characterization of GNC and perception systems for manual, semi-autonomous, and autonomous rover operations
• Define GNC and perception technical direction and system architecture with inputs from stakeholders across GNC, avionics, and software
• Manage and mentor a team of GNC and perception engineers
• Work closely with avionics responsible engineers to select, test, characterize, and calibrate GNC and perception sensors
• Work closely with the simulation and software teams to prototype and analyze GNC algorithms in the vehicle simulation and software test environment

Lead GNC and Perception Engineer

Engineer

• Collaborate closely within cross-functional Engineering teams to capture requirements, lead design trades with respect to EMI/EMC, and integrate the design into the rover systems.
• Contribute to full avionics and electro-mechanical systems/subsystems from system to component level with specific focus on E3 design criteria and operational/survivability requirements.
• Analyze and contribute to designs relating to the effects of circuit and power system grounding architectures, structural electrical bonding, circuit isolation, shielding effectiveness, radiated/conducted emissions and susceptibility, near field/far field electromagnetics, transient protection, signal and power integrity, and general RF compatibility.
• Troubleshoot EMI issues from board to system level.
• Operate and automate a variety of EMI, RF, and electronics test equipment (spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generation, oscilloscopes) within the context of avionics development and in house EMC testing.
• Create and update technical documentation including command media, system diagrams, schematics, interface control documents, procedures, work and/or build orders, vendor and payload requirements, and test/anomaly reports.
• Support flight hardware component qualification and spacecraft integration testing, including production issue dispositions, troubleshooting failures, and managing overall spacecraft risk.

EMC Engineer

Systems Engineer

• Define control system requirements from vehicle and subsystem level functional and performance requirements
• Lead design, analysis, development, tuning, verification, and validation of vehicle control systems
• Build system simulations for controller design and analysis in appropriate tools (e.g. Matlab, Simulink, Python) and mature simulations as additional test data becomes available
• Design and prototype appropriate controllers that meet the defined requirements using simulations and control system design tools (e.g. Matlab control system toolbox)
• Support sizing and selection of integrated robotic control system components (sensors and actuators) such as motion sensors, cameras, motor encoders, motors, and similar
• Support (and potentially lead) development of integrated hardware/software control system testbeds and testing of prototype controllers using these testbeds
• Analyze and tune controller performance, stability, and robustness using the system simulations, testbeds, and test data
• Develop control system documentation and work with vehicle software team to convert controller prototypes into flight code, including supporting unit and integrated testing of flight implementations

• Lead the Computing Electrical Engineering team of 5+ people in the development and delivery of system components including vehicle computers, networking, clocking, GNC sensors, servo controllers, and other mixed signal electronics for the vehicle.
• Support Computing Engineering direct reports through their technical work, performance evaluations, and career growth.
• Own mixed signal PCBA development from clean sheet to flight.
• Develop PCBA requirements, architectures, and con-ops in collaboration with other engineering disciplines.

Lead Computing Electrical Engineer

• Own wireless communications systems and components from architecture to component selection, integration, test, and operations. Systems may be focused on interplanetary and local lunar communication links.
• Develop interface and functional requirements and specifications to design to in collaboration with other engineering disciplines
• Select, procure, and test RF components to ensure qualification for purpose on Astrolab’s interplanetary systems. Qualification may include environmental testing as necessary.
• Perform detailed RF component performance analysis to support end-to-end communication system requirements (e.g., EVM, gain/stability, noise figure, etc.) in addition to interdisciplinary system design (e.g., power, thermal, etc.).
• Implement communication system integration test beds including ground support equipment
• Perform end-to-end system testing including vehicle integration and ground station systems integration testing
• Develop test plans/procedures to support the execution test events
• Support vehicle mission operations to help maintain reliable communication links

Senior RF Electrical Engineer

Director

• Lead the safety and mission assurance team at Astrolab and with our subcontractors’ teams to analyze and develop procedures and processes to assure safety and mission success consistent with the risk tolerance of NASA, Astrolab and the appropriate regulations
• Coordinate among all Astrolab and subcontractor elements to ensure a consistent safety and mission assurance approach across the various members of the team
• Collaborate with NASA and our Program Manager to ensure there is safe implementation of program interfaces and that hazards cannot progress across system interfaces
• Lead the integrated analysis of hazards, probabilistic risk analysis and other S&MA deliverables on the LTVS contract
• Guide the team in developing analyses, procedures and protocols for the LTVS program
