About the role
- Provide operational support for clients' network infrastructure including switches, routers, wireless access points and controllers, and firewalls
- Design, deploy, configure and secure network infrastructure for clients
- Address escalated tickets for complex operational issues in client networks
- Maintain clients’ existing networks to ensure stability and compliance and address issues and failures
- Communicate with clients regarding status of open tasks and projects daily
- Drive projects for data network design, development, and implementation in conjunction with professional services teams
- Follow established processes and Ascend’s quality standards for all work
- Identify and drive opportunities for process improvement
- Develop documentation for client networks, including network diagrams
- Work with vendors for support case resolution
- Assist in mentorship/training of other engineers
- Participate in an on-call rotation to provide off-hours support
Requirements
- MUST be located within the US
- Minimum 5 years advanced Network Engineering experience (preferably at an MSP)
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or related degree program
- Cisco CCNA and/or CCNP, or Fortinet FCP certification or equivalent working experience is required
- Advanced knowledge of cloud networking concepts in Azure and AWS
- Extensive knowledge of VoIP technologies preferred
- Advanced knowledge of network technologies from Fortinet, Cisco, Aruba, Palo Alto, and Ubiquiti
- Extensive knowledge of network security concepts, tools and strategies
- Expert knowledge of network protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, BGP, EIGRP, OSPF), services, and monitoring tools (LogicMonitor experience preferred)
- Ability to communicate complex technical problems clearly to customers with understanding of business impact and empathy
- Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills
- Strong sense of urgency (required)
- Ability to learn about new technologies rapidly and continually
- Willingness and ability to participate in an on-call rotation to provide off-hours support
