About the role
- Position: Staff Counsel, International Operations; US-based role to ensure APHL’s international work complies with US and foreign laws.\n
- Responsibilities: subsidiary and branch operations; internal audits and compliance; risk assessment and incident response; education and training; association support; contract review and negotiation; other duties as assigned.\n
- Reports to General Counsel and Managing Director, Legal & Compliance; funded through Sept 6, 2026.
Requirements
- A law degree (JD or LLM) from an accredited law school.\n
- Membership in good standing of the District of Columbia or Maryland bar; current bar membership in another US jurisdiction with ability to practice in Maryland under the in-house counsel exemption is required.\n
- At least 2 years of relevant legal practice; experience in nonprofit law, government grants, cooperative agreements or contracts, international law, compliance or administrative law or corporate, transaction or regulatory law preferred.\n
- Experience in drafting and negotiating international employment agreements, subgrant documents or other complex contracts.\n
- Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to identify and frame issues for non-lawyers.\n
- Proficiency in MS Office, SharePoint; familiarity with Ironclad contract management system preferred.\n
- Self-directed; ability to work under deadlines; highly organized; team player with positive attitude.
