About the role
- Partner with business stakeholders and vendors to design customer‑centric solutions.
- Shape the future by creating high‑level solution designs, models, option assessments, and future‑state architectures for core banking.
- Evaluate and recommend solution options that align with strategic goals, architecture principles, and target platforms.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Architects across the group to embed best practices, patterns, and reusable solutions.
- Lead key architecture decisions and develop patterns that can be reused across the organisation.
- Engage and influence stakeholders by clearly communicating architecture designs and guiding them through governance and approval.
- Work as part of a collaborative, cross‑disciplinary architecture team and the wider engineering and customer experience community.
Requirements
- Core banking & products: Deep understanding of banking products, with proven delivery on large‑scale core banking programmes at both technical and functional levels
- Payments: Strong knowledge of payments and core systems, including NZ industry and international IMT
- IBM Mainframe: Ability to work effectively with mainframe engineers; familiarity with CICS, VSAM, JCL, batch processing, and spooler operations
- Analysis & solution design: Strong analytical skills, translating business needs into practical solution options
- Architecture & modernisation: Experience shaping solution direction in medium to large organisations, including modernising complex legacy environments
- Stakeholder leadership: Ability to influence, collaborate, and negotiate at all levels; collaborative leadership style
- Integration & cloud: Experience with modern integration (APIs, microservices, event‑driven, secure SaaS) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Architecture practices & security: Familiar with TOGAF, BIAN, DDD, service design, architecture patterns, and core‑banking‑relevant security and identity standards.
