About the role

  • Develop communications strategies and plans that effectively and consistently communicate to targeted key audiences and stakeholders about the science and innovation going on in research.
  • Once fully vetted and approved, flawlessly execute on those plans and deliver measurable results.
  • Develop and support executive engagement plan for Research SVP and key VPs, including proactively preparing company spokespeople via media training / presentation skills.
  • Partner with the media relations team to address incoming media requests related to research and proactively work to garner press coverage with trade press to elevate Amgen as very much part of the wave of transformation sweeping drug discovery.
  • Partner with the product communications team and therapeutic leads on therapeutic area strategy and positioning.
  • Manage and direct public relations agency partners to assure maximum impact and assistance in reaching desired communications goals and objectives.
  • Work in partnership with Research leaders and HR on employee engagement / internal communications.
  • Partner successfully with investor relations to ensure consistency of messages to external audiences including media and financial world.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree & 4 years of communications or public relations experience
  • Or Master’s degree & 7 years of communications or public relations experience
  • Or Bachelor’s degree & 9 years of communications or public relations experience
  • Degree in Public Relations, Communications or Journalism
  • Experience working in-house or within a PR agency
  • Biotechnology, pharmaceutical or healthcare product public relations including corporate experience highly desired
  • Hands on experience scientific / research communications desirable
  • Strong oral and presentation skills; ability to negotiate and persuade
  • Outstanding writing skills and proven media relations skills that are results-oriented
  • Strategic and creative thinker with ability to develop actionable programs that integrate soundly with business objectives
  • Ability to efficiently navigate a challenging and dynamic environment, and deal with rapidly changing priorities
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management and manage staff and vendors
  • Ability to think quickly, analytically and creatively to accommodate a dynamic communications environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; enthusiastic, team player and self-starter; serious dedication to hard work and excellence.
