Provide executive oversight and strategic direction for real-time transmission reliability, outage planning, and system response functions to ensure consistent execution across all operating companies and RTO footprints.
Lead, mentor, and develop senior operational leaders, fostering a strong safety culture, accountability, and performance excellence.
Ensure continuous, secure, and reliable operation of the transmission system in compliance with NERC, FERC, RTO, and state reliability standards.
Oversee the development, implementation, and governance of normal and emergency operating procedures, including system restoration and emergency response plans.
Provide strategic oversight of transmission outage planning and coordination to minimize system and customer risk while supporting construction and maintenance activities.
Ensure effective real-time response to planned and unplanned events, including system disturbances, severe weather, and emergency conditions.
Set strategic direction for real-time operational technologies including EMS, SCADA, diagnostic tools, and advanced system monitoring capabilities.
Serve as a senior AEP representative with RTOs, ISOs, reliability organizations, regulators, and industry forums, representing AEP’s operational interests.
Drive a culture of operational excellence, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision-making across all transmission real-time operations.
Manage expenses to established budget and effectively create a business plan to include multi-year budget forecast.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business or information systems or related technical discipline from an accredited institution; in lieu of the degree 15 years of experience in transmission operations or systems is acceptable.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in transmission operations, system reliability, engineering, or related operational leadership roles.
Professional Engineer (PE) license and/or NERC System Operator Certification preferred.
Master’s degree in engineering, business, or a related field preferred.
Experience operating within multiple RTO/ISO environments (e.g., PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT) preferred.
Demonstrated expertise in real-time transmission operations, outage planning, emergency response, and regulatory compliance required.
Proven track record leading large-scale operational transformation and continuous improvement initiatives required.
