💰 $120,000 - $135,000 per year
About the role
- Handle bodily injury, property damage lawsuits, trials, arbitrations, and mediations
- Manage all aspects of insurance defense litigation from case inception to verdict, including case assessment, discovery, depositions, motion practice, pre-trial negotiations, courtroom advocacy, and post-trial motions
- Gather and organize documents, evidence, and legal research; prepare for hearings and trials
- Conduct legal research on relevant laws, regulations, and precedents; prepare summaries and reports
- Prepare and draft pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and other legal documents
- Interview clients and witnesses; draft summaries and maintain communication records
- Attend court hearings, depositions, and legal proceedings; represent company or clients in routine matters
- Monitor changes in laws and regulations and update the legal team on impacts
- Provide counsel to business clients and coordinate between legal teams
- Participate in training sessions and mentorship programs to develop legal skills
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate (J.D.) and active membership in good standing with the California State Bar
- Successful completion of courses focused on legal research, writing, and analysis
- Strong time management skills and ability to balance multiple tasks and deadlines
- Ability to organize case files, manage legal documents, and understand the discovery process
- Skilled in communicating with clients and preparing summaries and records
- Knowledge of legal ethics and standards of professional conduct
- Equipped with fundamental negotiation techniques and strategies
- Must be commutable distance to courthouses throughout the San Jose, California area
- Subject to background investigation
