About the role
- Play a critical role protecting and advancing Instacart’s interests by managing and resolving a range of disputes.
- Handle a portfolio of matters spanning personal injury, consumer disputes, pre-litigation, commercial disputes, and regulatory inquiries.
- Guide legal strategies from start to finish and partner with internal teams, insurance carriers, and outside counsel.
- Actively manage relationships with outside counsel including staffing, strategy, budgets, work product, and discovery.
- Work closely with insurance carriers and Instacart Risk Management and Trust & Safety teams.
- Resolve disputes in an efficient and cost-effective manner and create processes for operational efficiency.
- Respond to 3rd party subpoenas for documents and/or witness testimony.
- Proactively identify and mitigate litigation risks and help shape the company’s legal infrastructure.
Requirements
- J.D. from a top-tier law school and membership with at least one state bar (preferably California or New York).
- Minimum of 5 years of law firm and/or in-house litigation experience, including state and federal courts.
- Previous in-house or technology company experience preferred.
- Broad substantive legal knowledge relating to e-commerce, insurance coverage, personal injury, and consumer legal issues.
- Demonstrated success in strategizing, handling, and managing complex disputes to successful resolution.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Ability to efficiently handle and organize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment (preferred).
- Willingness to roll up your sleeves and exercise sound judgment when addressing novel problems (preferred).
