About the role

  • Create and sustain next-generation, energy-efficient, intelligent, wired and wireless lighting control systems for commercial and industrial applications.
  • Design, model, and test mixed-signal processor-based electronics, design and source PCBs, specify and source electronic components, and specify and manage firmware.
  • Collaborate with firmware engineers to optimize system-level integration and performance.
  • Evaluate existing and emerging technologies to identify solutions that will reliably operate in various installed environments.
  • Evaluate Intellectual Property (IP) landscape to identify risks created by existing IP and opportunities for developing valuable new IP.
  • Design and support products according to relevant electrical code and laboratory standards, as well as support the UL / CSA testing and listing process for products.
  • Design and support wireless communication products that comply with FCC Part 15 and manage submissions for compliance testing.
  • Work closely with manufacturing to ensure that designs meet manufacturability and testing criteria and sustain these products in manufacturing.
  • Develop and distribute engineering data in the form of Engineering Change Notices, Bills of Material, and parts tracking.
  • Perform system integration and validation testing activities, including verification of interoperability with customer-supplied peripherals.
  • Mentor junior team members on technical and professional subjects to strengthen their capabilities and those of the overall team.
  • Actively contribute to design reviews, successfully catching challenging errors and providing possible solutions.
  • Clearly communicate design and component constraints and trade-offs to other team members and management, playing an advisory role as a subject matter expert to ensure optimal design decisions.
  • Help drive fast design decisions that best support the business strategy.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering is required.
  • 7+ years of experience specific to analog and digital low voltage circuit design, PCB design, and layout, ideally using Altium.
  • Expertise in AC-DC, DC-DC power supplies, power electronics, and AC circuit protection required.
  • Expertise in designing wireless products that comply with FCC Part 15 certifications.
  • Experience in modeling, P-Spice simulation, circuit analysis, thermal analysis, MTBF, and product lifetime expectancy calculation required.
  • Experience with communication and networking protocols (I2C, SPI, RS-485, Ethernet, etc.) is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to devise novel technical solutions, lateral thinking (applying known solutions to new problems in related fields), willingness to challenge existing practice (technical, testing, manufacturing), and desire to add new functionalities to existing products or start entirely new product categories are required.
  • Strong project management skills with a demonstrated ability to take projects from start to finish with minimal supervision are required.
  • Experience creating product test plans with a hands-on approach to proactively resolve technical challenges is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Experience mentoring junior team members is required.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of firmware is required.
  • Experience with wireless communication protocols (Wi-Fi, ZigBee, Bluetooth, BLE, Proprietary, etc.).
Benefits
  • Health care
