About the role

  • Create and sustain next-generation, energy-efficient, intelligent, wired and wireless lighting control systems for commercial and industrial applications
  • Design, model, and test mixed-signal processor-based electronics; design and source PCBs; specify and source electronic components; and specify and manage firmware
  • Collaborate with firmware engineers to optimize system-level integration and performance
  • Evaluate existing and emerging technologies to identify reliable solutions for various installed environments
  • Evaluate Intellectual Property (IP) landscape to identify risks and opportunities for new IP
  • Design and support products according to relevant electrical code and laboratory standards; support UL / CSA testing and listing process
  • Design and support wireless communication products that comply with FCC Part 15 and manage submissions for compliance testing
  • Work closely with manufacturing to ensure designs meet manufacturability and testing criteria and sustain products in manufacturing
  • Develop and distribute engineering data: Engineering Change Notices, Bills of Material, and parts tracking
  • Perform system integration and validation testing, including interoperability verification with customer-supplied peripherals
  • Provide sustaining engineering support and mentor junior team members
  • Actively contribute to design reviews, communicate design/component constraints and trade-offs, and drive fast design decisions that support business strategy

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering required
  • 7+ years of experience specific to analog and digital low voltage circuit design, PCB design, and layout
  • Ideally experienced using Altium
  • Expertise in AC-DC, DC-DC power supplies, power electronics, and AC circuit protection
  • Expertise in designing wireless products that comply with FCC Part 15 certifications
  • Experience in modeling, P-Spice simulation, circuit analysis, thermal analysis, MTBF, and product lifetime expectancy calculation
  • Experience with communication and networking protocols (I2C, SPI, RS-485, Ethernet, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to devise novel technical solutions and lateral thinking
  • Willingness to challenge existing practice (technical, testing, manufacturing)
  • Strong project management skills and ability to take projects from start to finish with minimal supervision
  • Experience creating product test plans with a hands-on approach
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience mentoring junior team members
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of firmware
  • Experience with wireless communication protocols (Wi-Fi, ZigBee, Bluetooth, BLE, Proprietary, etc.)
