About the role
- Independently design electronics and light engine systems including component selection, firmware solutions, LED drivers, and system controls
- Calculate electronics and LED schematic parameters and collaborate with Optics to meet lumens targets and lumens per watt
- Prototype, test, and assemble samples for evaluating designs and cost reductions
- Develop and distribute engineering data: ECNs, bills of material, drawings, PCB design/manufacturing files, test specifications, parts tracking
- Manage engineering documentation, ECRs, ECOs, DFMEA, calculations, and drawings using Acuity Product Life Management systems
- Manage projects from charters/spec matrices through product release and factory launch; train others on Acuity Product Development System (PDS)
- Lead and participate in Kaizen/LEAN activities and support process improvements across design, testing, purchasing, and manufacturing
- Submit photometry/thermal test requests and coordinate with testing and mechanical teams to ensure CEM compliance
- Partner with manufacturing and distribution to resolve component, testing, deviation requests, and BOM errors
- Perform luminaire product scaling and support sustaining engineering, field quality resolution, and manufacturing support
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering required (Master's preferred)
- At least four years of applicable experience in electronics and firmware engineering design
- Demonstrated success in creating electronic hardware designs and microprocessor firmware/code
- Proficient use of schematic capture and PCB layout tools, CAD(2D), Microsoft Office 365, MiniTab, SPICE, circuit analysis tools
- Understanding of heat transfer/flow, thermal design considerations, electrical isolation, cost trade-offs, EMI considerations, prototyping, and design Reliability testing
- Experience using benchtop electronics tools: oscilloscope, signal generator, curve tracer, power analyzer, DVM, Surge and EMI generator, spectrum analyzer, Variac, illuminance flux/CCT measurement, RLC bridge, ESR meter, benchtop sphere, power quality measurement equipment
- Electronic component selection experience including tolerance stack-up analysis, component reliability analysis, and simulation
- Understanding of PCBA manufacturing, factory testing methods, and PCB material selection
- Demonstrated LEAN & Six Sigma methodology and practices (standard work, time study, cause & effect, A3, 5WHY, DMAIC)
- Knowledge of standards such as UL, DLC, Energy Star, and related testing processes
- Ability to travel approximately 10% and to lift/manage products up to 50 lbs
