About the role

  • Provide outsourced controllership and advisory services to multiple clients, acting as trusted advisor
  • Develop and maintain accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements compliant with DCAA, FAR, CAS, and GAAP
  • Review monthly financial reports for accuracy and implement internal processes and controls to eliminate risk
  • Prepare and manage client budgets, cash forecasts, monthly financial reports, and KPIs
  • Manage month-end closes and issue monthly financial reports to all clients
  • Identify budget variances and report significant variances to clients; execute regular client conference calls
  • Assist with tax related information gathering and coordinate external audits
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and review/approve tax filings prepared by specialists
  • Direct, support, train, mentor, and review performance of virtual accounting team members
  • Utilize internal documentation system to update/develop procedures and enforce internal controls
  • Provide strategic guidance and operational decision making to senior leadership and collaborate with other Senior Controllers on best practices
  • Complete special projects as requested by clients and company leadership

Requirements

  • Active CPA, CMA or MBA
  • 10–15 years of progressive accounting experience (ideal)
  • Combination of 5+ years in public accounting and 5+ years in private industry
  • 5 years supervisory experience
  • Government contracting industry experience
  • Solid understanding of federal contracts, full accrual accounting
  • Working knowledge of FAR, CAS, and DCAA requirements
  • Ability to multi-task and set daily, weekly and monthly priorities
  • Adaptive leadership style with a passion for mentoring staff
  • Exceptional ability to work with all levels within the organization and foster a team environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Hands on accounting experience with small to medium size businesses
  • Technical, analytical focus with proactive, problem-solving nature
  • Ability to research and suggest proper accounting solutions
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency
  • Ability to make quick decisions based on knowledge and experience
  • Works well within established standards and guidelines
  • Ability to acclimate to various client environments
  • Strong experience with QuickBooks, ICAT and/or other accounting software packages
  • High degree of computer literacy, including extensive knowledge in Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook and Excel
  • Ability to travel when necessary
