About the role
- Design and model data structures to support enterprise financial and administrative systems for the Department of Veterans Affairs
- Ensure scalable, secure, and efficient database architectures aligned with VA operational and modernization goals
- Develop, test, and maintain application features in alignment with technical specifications
- Participate in Agile development teams, including sprint planning and retrospectives
- Collaborate with business analysts and architects to translate requirements into code
- Write clean, scalable, and secure code following industry best practices
- Conduct unit testing and peer code reviews to ensure high-quality software delivery
- Participate in continuous integration and deployment processes
- Document code, APIs, and system configurations for maintainability
- Work with QA teams to support defect resolution and performance tuning
- Follow VA cybersecurity, Section 508, and data protection standards
Requirements
- BD degree in computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline is required, or related field
- 5 years of related professional experience
- 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education
- Experience with enterprise-level systems in government or financial domains (preferred)
- Familiarity with Java, .NET, or Python in modern frameworks (preferred)
- Knowledge of REST APIs, microservices, and DevSecOps practices (preferred)
- Experience using source control tools such as Git and project tracking systems like Jira (preferred)
