About the role
- 9th Way Insignia is a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business providing cybersecurity, cloud modernization, software development, data analytics, enterprise architecture, enterprise IT, analytics, process automation, and AI to government customers.
- Staff Accountant responsible for day-to-day accounting operations ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely financial reporting.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable: process vendor invoices, expense reports, vendor payments; generate customer invoices and follow up on overdue balances.
- Perform monthly bank, credit card, and intercompany reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
- Prepare and record routine and adjusting journal entries and support month-end and year-end close activities.
- Coordinate payroll with HR and payroll provider: gather timesheets, verify hours, reconcile payroll liabilities and benefits.
- Assist with preparation of monthly financial reports and provide variance analysis and ad-hoc analyses.
- Support Unanet time-and-expense administration, project setup, rate updates, and user troubleshooting.
- Document standard operating procedures and recommend process improvements and internal controls.
- Collaborate with Project Finance Analysts and project managers to ensure proper cost coding and budget adherence.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Experience in lieu of degree will be considered.
- 2–4 years of accounting experience, preferably within a government contracting (GovCon) environment.
- Proficiency with general ledger systems and ERP tools (Unanet experience strongly preferred).
- Solid understanding of GAAP, AP/AR, reconciliations, and payroll processes.
- Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, basic macros).
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to collaborate across departments.
- Experience with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) (preferred).
- Professional certification such as CPA, CMA, or progress toward one (preferred).
- Experience with Paylocity (preferred).
