About the role

  • 9th Way Insignia is a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business providing cybersecurity, cloud modernization, software development, data analytics, enterprise architecture, enterprise IT, analytics, process automation, and AI to government customers.
  • Staff Accountant responsible for day-to-day accounting operations ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely financial reporting.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable: process vendor invoices, expense reports, vendor payments; generate customer invoices and follow up on overdue balances.
  • Perform monthly bank, credit card, and intercompany reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Prepare and record routine and adjusting journal entries and support month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Coordinate payroll with HR and payroll provider: gather timesheets, verify hours, reconcile payroll liabilities and benefits.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly financial reports and provide variance analysis and ad-hoc analyses.
  • Support Unanet time-and-expense administration, project setup, rate updates, and user troubleshooting.
  • Document standard operating procedures and recommend process improvements and internal controls.
  • Collaborate with Project Finance Analysts and project managers to ensure proper cost coding and budget adherence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Experience in lieu of degree will be considered.
  • 2–4 years of accounting experience, preferably within a government contracting (GovCon) environment.
  • Proficiency with general ledger systems and ERP tools (Unanet experience strongly preferred).
  • Solid understanding of GAAP, AP/AR, reconciliations, and payroll processes.
  • Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, basic macros).
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Experience with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) (preferred).
  • Professional certification such as CPA, CMA, or progress toward one (preferred).
  • Experience with Paylocity (preferred).
