Mechanical Engineer

• Build models, drawings, and configurations of hardware with a focus on mechanical systems including tooling, mechanisms, and routed systems.
• Design component and assembly product definition by preparing design layouts and drawings, modifying existing designs and resolving design discrepancies.
• Implement engineering and manufacturing best practices to achieve a balanced approach to cost, schedule, and performance requirements.
• Collaborate closely with structural, thermal, and nuclear engineering teams to refine designs based on system-level requirements.
• Interface with the structural, thermal and nuclear teams to implement and optimize the design based on system requirements.
• Incorporate drafting standards and standard drawing notes based on program, and industry standards.
• Identify and implement design improvements to optimize performance, manufacturability, and cost.
• Perform model and drawing check activities during release reviews.
• Position requires in-office presence in Seattle (South Lake Union) 1 day per week

Mechanical Design Engineer

Engineer

• Support Analysis group in developing radioisotope power systems (RPS) technologies
• Perform radiation shielding design analysis for radioisotope power systems and radiological facilities, including calculation of dose, energy deposition, and material degradation due to irradiation
• Design and analyze new systems for solving complex problems
• Design and execute sensitivity studies to evaluate impact of modeling assumptions and build corrected methods
• Ensure final shielding design and implementation meets the radiation shield requirements
• Establish and maintain documentation of requirements, analysis results, and radiation shielding design solutions
• Ensure consistency, traceability, maintainability, and technical rigor in documentation
• Review models, calculations, and reports to ensure adequacy and accuracy of vendor-submitted technical work products
• Support planning for new initiatives and assist with requirements development and strategic planning
• Maintain in-office presence on required days and travel occasionally (<10%)

Nuclear Shielding Engineer

Program Manager

• Evaluate, make recommendations to management, and implement proposed radioactive material transportation and waste strategies
• Lead radioactive material supply and product transportation and handling logistics with inputs from internal project stakeholders, commercial fabrication partners, deployment customers, and transportation partners
• Perform analyses of Zeno’s RPS lifecycle and develop cost effective strategies for process waste and transportation including feedstock material, fabrication, assembly, and deployment
• Coordinate with Zeno's RPS fabrication facility partner(s) to implement the low-level radioactive material disposition strategies
• Prepare and support documentation, including design specifications, equipment specifications, inspection and maintenance procedures, component design details, concept of operations, and licensing materials
• Support Zeno’s regulatory efforts, including drafting or reviewing filings, participating in engagements, and contributing to regulatory technical papers
• Manage and evaluate commercial contracts with Zeno partners and subcontractors
• Prepare and give presentations to internal and external stakeholders, including at technical conferences
• Support commercialization of novel radioisotope power system (RPS) technology

Program Manager – Transportation and Material Lifecycle

• Manage the technical team responsible for radiochemistry/chemistry development and chemical process engineering
• Lead a team responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, and testing of nuclear fuel and shielding systems, with hands-on involvement in R&D
• Manage the technical execution of chemistry and fuel processing development, from lab scale to pilot plant sized nuclear fuel cycle unit operations and processes
• Supervise, identify, and continuously improve the development processes, tools, and expertise of the M&C team
• Ensure sound Engineering and research methodology is applied to the design of RPS systems as well as required fabrication and testing facility systems
• Lead planning efforts and review/approve M&C work products critical to Zeno design efforts
• Direct, develop, implement, and enforce design processes and tools to support RPS and facility design work
• Verify adherence of regulatory and code requirements for work products generated within the M&C team
• Monitor and ensure M&C activities for Zeno organizations meet performance and technical requirements through the design lifecycle
• Monitor and ensure M&C activities for Zeno suppliers, such as contractors, subcontractors, and National Labs, meet performance and technical requirements through the design lifecycle
• Provide technical expertise and support during the development and completion of design package components for key systems including calculations, reports, drawings, and design specifications generated within the M&C discipline
• Perform the role of main M&C point of contact responsible for coordination and planning of team work with project management, customers, and other stakeholders
• Oversee the employee life cycle including performance management and career development, training and allocating technical resources to program development
