About the role
- Lead and supervise the accounting team in day-to-day operations, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable/receivable, payroll processing, and bank reconciliations.
- Oversee and ensure the timely and accurate completion of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes, in full compliance with U.S. GAAP.
- Act as the primary liaison for external auditors and tax advisors, managing audits and regulatory reporting for Zema Services UK and Zema Singapore.
- Interpret and apply complex accounting standards and technical guidance, such as ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition) and ASC 842 (Leases).
- Maintain accurate vendor and customer records within NetSuite, ensuring data integrity and consistency.
- Oversee the preparation and maintenance of financial schedules, execution of amortization schedules, and conduct regular revenue-to-budget variance analyses.
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable regulatory, tax, and statutory reporting requirements.
- Ensure timely and appropriate recording of accruals in accordance with accounting standards and company policy.
- Lead the maintenance of internal controls and accounting policies to support audit readiness and financial integrity.
- Identify and implement process improvements and system enhancements to increase efficiency and accuracy across accounting operations.
- Provide mentorship, training, and ongoing development opportunities for accounting staff to support skill growth and team performance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA, CA, or equivalent professional accounting qualification preferred
- 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in a managerial or lead role
- Proven experience working in a complex, multi-entity environment, ideally within Commodities, Energy, Financial Services, or a similarly regulated industry
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, with hands-on experience applying ASC 606 Revenue Recognition and ASC 842 Leases
- End-to-end ownership of monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
- Experience acting as the primary point of contact for external auditors and tax advisors
- Advanced experience with NetSuite or a comparable enterprise ERP system
- Strong understanding of internal controls, audit readiness, and statutory reporting requirements
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members
- High attention to detail with the ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and meet tight deadlines
- Clear, confident communicator who can explain accounting matters to non-finance stakeholders.
