About the role

  • Project Description: Work with our project lead engineers designing and managing capital projects throughout the Energy Supply SPS fleet. Coordinate with plant personnel to develop the project Scope of Work, determine technical specifications, evaluate vendor bids, generate budget and schedule estimates, oversee installation/commissioning/startup tasks, and complete drawing and technical document reviews/updates.
  • This internship will provide hands on engineering design and project management experience in power plant capital projects and would potentially lead to a full-time position with our team following graduation.
  • Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Lead small capital projects at power plants. Develop scopes of work for capital projects. Perform engineering analysis on assigned capital projects. Develop schedules and budgets for capital projects. Communicate technical details to vendors and other business units.
  • This position is for an immediate start date.
  • These positions may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel’s business needs.

Requirements

  • Current student, Junior or Senior status (as of May 2025)
  • Must be enrolled in an ABET accredited engineering program, studying areas such as electrical, mechanical, civil, and chemical engineering.
  • Able to commute to Harrington/Nichols Station and 790 Buchanan in Amarillo, TX- Hybrid schedule
  • The candidate should be able to work full-time during the summer and 15-20 hrs./wk. during a school semester.
