About the role
- Compiles data sets for research projects using R.
- Downloads data from data warehouses and compiles data from other sources for analysis in spreadsheets (such as Excel) or statistical or specialized software (such as R).
- Compiles and maintains databases from internal and external sources and updates regularly published reports and analyses.
- Proofs and audits data for accuracy, reasonableness, and suitability.
- Identifies outliers and other anomalous patterns and brings these to the attention of the Vice President, Research.
- Performs more complex research, statistical and other analyses under guidance of the Vice President, Research.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, data science, economics or a related field
- Completion of at least one Casualty Actuarial Society examination or comparable educational experience
- At least one year of experience in an office environment or a prior Actuarial internship preferred
- Proficiency in programming with SQL, R or Python
- Proficiency in at least two of the following three areas: applied statistics, economics and finance (beyond a college sophomore level), or programming (in a language such as R, Python or C++)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent oral and written English skills including the ability to understand complex and nuanced instructions in preparing research databases
- Ability to clearly communicate findings, issues, and recommendations to co-workers.
- Strong listening and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively on projects.
- Able to work independently with occasional supervision.
