About the role
- Responsible for the leadership and management of a team of underwriters to achieve the Company’s production and quality goals
- Manage underwriters to ensure mortgage loans are underwritten per AmeriHome and Investor underwriting guidelines
- Ensure team members are fully trained and current on company’s philosophy and policies/procedures
- Manage and review day-to-day tasks escalated by the underwriting team, Operation Account Representative managers, clients and exceptions team
- Coordinate with Senior Underwriting Manager to review and respond to QA, QC or secondary post-closing/post purchase requests
- Responsible for the training, coaching and supervision for all underwriters within the associated interpretation and application of all company overlays and agency requirements
- Track and monitor underwriting metrics including productivity, quality, turn-times, customer service communication and all required service level agreements
- Evaluate the structure of the Underwriting team and plan for continuous improvement in efficiency and effectiveness
- Provide a consistent approach to new hire training of underwriters and peer managers
- Responsible for interviewing, hiring and onboarding of new hires
- Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with other departments
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- 5+ years underwriting experience and 7+ in the mortgage industry
- Working knowledge of Non-Delegated, Retail and/or Correspondent processes
- Experience with FNMA/FHLMC and jumbo products
- Experience in product and credit risk management analysis
- 3+ years of previous management experience required
- Project management experience
- College degree preferred but not required
- Current advanced knowledge of industry-specific underwriting guidelines and agency requirements
- Proficiency with automated underwriting systems such as Desktop Underwriter and Loan Product Advisor
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to provide outstanding customer service in fast-paced environments
- Proficient working knowledge of computerized applications such as word processing, excel spreadsheets, database, presentation software, email and specialized business applications software
- Presentation skills necessary to effectively communicate, update, persuade and/or facilitate discussions with all levels of management as well as external clients
- Interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, other departments and investor agencies as required
