About the role
- Reports, researches, writes and owns all stages of assigned stories from brief initial network alerts to fully formed published stories and everything in between across all platforms
- Capable of reporting and write assigned stories, with urgency and accuracy, often under tight deadlines
- Utilize strong editorial judgment to quickly and effectively frame and headline news items for maximum impact, as well as provide key context
- Maintain contacts and monitor competitive landscape and variety of news products for developments beyond initial reporting
- Assist covering events and newsmaker interviews, singling out and writing news developments
- Demonstrate a sense of urgency in pursuing breaking news stories and delivering updates in real-time
- May be deployed on field assignments to enhance breaking news coverage or to pursue distinctive storylines
- Monitor the competitive landscape and multiple sources for news developments
Requirements
- Typically has 3 or more years of progressively complex related experience
- College degree or equivalent industry experience
- Reports, researches, writes and owns all stages of assigned stories across platforms
- Capable of reporting and writing with urgency and accuracy under tight deadlines
- Strong editorial judgment to quickly and effectively frame and headline news items
- Working knowledge of Washington coverage area
- Maintain contacts and monitor competitive landscape and multiple news sources
- Assist covering events and newsmaker interviews; may be deployed on field assignments
