About the role
- Conceptualize breaking news and continuing coverage from Hub reporters and Domestic field teams.
- Guide and direct reporting plans and pursuits.
- Serve as a front-line editor of internal alerts and digital articles.
- Help sharpen and elevate copy.
- Take top-to-bottom editorial management of priority stories – including directing and involving yourself in the reporting and clearing of editorial and elements.
- Conceptualize coverage and help shape sharp, discrete angles and ideas to advance storylines.
- Assign reporting targets while story-managing and be involved in the hands-on execution of those reporting efforts.
- Identify the most significant headlines within news developments; focus on the framing.
- Monitor and lead the competitive landscape on those stories and serve as the network’s subject matter expert.
- Fill in as a shift supervisor on the National News Hub.
- Provide feedback and guidance to reporters (and other editors, where relevant) at every step to enhance the quality of our work.
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of progressively complex editorial experience
- At least 3 years of management experience
- A college degree or equivalent industry experience
- Experience helping reporters frame their stories for a national audience
- Experience managing coverage of fast-moving breaking news stories under deadline pressure
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends
