About the role
- Lead the product design function for emerging, cross-platform digital products within CNN’s New Business strategy.
- Manage and mentor a small team of product designers, fostering a positive and productive environment within a growing team.
- Guide the team's creation of compelling digital experiences in highly ambiguous areas, empowering designers to set vision and influence strategic decisions.
- Oversee execution of end-to-end designs that are original, intuitive, and seamless, crafted from a range of design artifacts, assessing and flexing deliverables to match project needs and contributing to execution when needed.
- Partner with product and technology stakeholders to translate business and customer needs into product and user experience opportunities.
- Proactively manage the design roadmap, organizing multiple projects and workstreams to ensure efficient delivery in an agile environment, while continuously communicating progress to key partners and stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional experts in editorial, product, engineering, research, and growth, synthesizing multiple threads and business goals into a best-in-class product experience while exemplifying a customer-focused mentality.
- Champion thoughtful innovation by understanding the boundaries of each digital platform and the business, while knowing when to challenge convention, drive disruption, and reimagine what’s possible for our users.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience as a cross-platform product designer, with at least 2+ years managing design teams.
- Experience in media companies is a plus.
- Experience successfully leading product design projects with continuous improvement and iteration, showing demonstrated impact for the customer and the business.
- Impeccable visual and interaction design skills.
- Mastery of best UX design practices, including usability principles, user research methodologies and testing techniques.
- Solid understanding of mobile and web technologies.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills to clearly communicate design strategy to stakeholders and broader design leaders.
- Experience in program management tools such as Confluence and Jira.
- Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or equivalent professional experience.
