About the role

  • Manage the full project accounting lifecycle for a portfolio of projects—from setup through closeout.
  • Prepare and issue invoices in accordance with contract terms (fixed-fee, time & materials, cost-plus, etc.).
  • Ensure timely and accurate billing while coordinating with clients and Project Managers to resolve any discrepancies.
  • Partner with PMs to ensure invoices are accurate, timely, and aligned with contract requirements—including required backup and portal submissions.
  • Work with Project Managers to review financial aspects of multiple engineering projects, ensuring alignment with budgets and contracts.
  • Track project costs, including labor, materials, and subcontractor expenses, ensuring accurate financial reporting.
  • Assist in developing project budgets and forecasts in collaboration with project managers and senior leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing accurate documentation and financial records.
  • Partner with project managers to ensure proper financial oversight and cost control.
  • Work with Project Managers and finance teams to optimize expense tracking and reporting processes.
  • Implement best practices for project accounting within the A&E industry.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3+ years of project accounting experience, preferably in the Architecture, Engineering, or Construction (AEC) industry.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with industry-specific ERP software such as Deltek Ajera, Deltek Vantagepoint, BST Global, or SAP.
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of contract types (Lump Sum, T&M, Cost-Plus), revenue recognition, and project financials in A&E firms.
  • Analytical & Communication Skills: Ability to interpret financial data, provide insights, and collaborate effectively with project teams and clients.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong ability to manage multiple projects while ensuring accuracy in reporting and compliance.
