About the role
- Executes complex test plans for new product development, design verification (DV), and product validation (PV) in accordance with established protocols
- Sets up, calibrates, and operates a wide array of test fixtures and analytical instrumentation
- Prepares material samples through sectioning, mounting, and polishing for metallographic examination, including microstructure and grain size analysis
- Conducts detailed failure analysis investigations to identify the root causes
- Utilizes data acquisition systems to collect, compile, and accurately record all test data and observations
- Performs preliminary analysis of test results, identifies performance trends, and prepares clear, concise, and objective technical reports for engineering review
- Maintains organized and traceable documentation for all testing procedures, raw data, and final reports in adherence with quality management systems
- Maintains a safe, clean, and organized laboratory environment in strict compliance with all corporate and regulatory safety protocols (e.g., OSHA)
- Performs routine maintenance, calibration, and functional verification of laboratory instruments to ensure operational integrity and data accuracy
- Collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams, including Innovation Engineers, Material Scientists, and Quality Assurance personnel, to support project objectives
- Contributes to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing laboratory efficiency, test methodologies, and data integrity
- Adheres to all relevant industry standards (ASTM, ISO, etc.) and internal quality procedures
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- A minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated experience in a technical laboratory setting within a quality, R&D, or manufacturing environment
- Hands-on proficiency with standard mechanical and materials testing equipment
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and testing specifications
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Experience with metallographic analysis (microstructure, grain size) preferred
- Working knowledge of analytical instruments such as FTIR and GC-MS preferred
- Foundational knowledge of material science (polymers, metals, composites) and basic chemistry principles preferred
- Strong analytical and systematic problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
- A proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development
