About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Payroll processing: Accurately process biweekly payroll for employees in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage group benefits and RVER contributions.
  • Administer payments received for group insurance premiums for employees on leave and calculate, where applicable, indemnities in accordance with CNESST standards.
  • Ensure appropriate tax withholdings and other deductions.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal and provincial payroll laws and regulations.
  • Prepare and file payroll-related tax returns and year-end tax slips.
  • Records management: Maintain accurate, up-to-date payroll records and employee information in the payroll system.
  • Update employee records for changes (salary, benefits, direct deposit).
  • Perform onboarding and offboarding tasks in the HRIS.
  • Employee support: Respond to employee questions and concerns regarding payroll, benefits-related withholdings, and taxes.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies promptly and professionally.
  • Collaboration and reporting: Work closely with HR and Finance teams to ensure accurate integration of benefits and the production of financial reports.
  • Systems optimization: Stay current with payroll software and technological advancements to recommend process improvements. Diagnose and resolve payroll system issues as needed.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 5 years of payroll processing experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) or CPM (Certified Payroll Manager) designation from the National Payroll Institute.
  • Experience managing payroll in a multi-provincial environment (an asset).
  • Fluency in French and English required, as 50% of the role involves payroll processing and communication with employees in Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, and Alberta.
  • Knowledge of payroll software (e.g., ADP, Workday, Nethris) and experience with HRIS systems (BambooHR is considered a major asset).
