About the role
- Lead the architectural design and modernization of the VetPro application, transitioning from legacy infrastructure to a secure, scalable VA Enterprise Cloud (VAEC) environment
- Refactor and optimize .NET Framework codebase to align with microservices architecture and cloud-native best practices
- Develop and maintain application components using ASP.NET MVC, C#, JavaScript, jQuery, HTML, and SQL Server
- Design and implement secure APIs and data integration routines with external systems such as NPDB and FSMB
- Collaborate with DevSecOps teams to ensure CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure-as-code practices are integrated into the development lifecycle
- Support the development and maintenance of system documentation, including architecture diagrams, data flow models, and security artifacts (e.g., SSP, POA&M, SAR)
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives, and contribute to sprint deliverables and release planning
- Provide technical leadership in performance tuning, disaster recovery planning, and system hardening in compliance with VA Handbook 6500 and NIST standards
- Mentor junior developers and collaborate with cross-functional teams including security, QA, and business analysts
- Take on additional tasks as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
- 10+ years of experience in software development
- At least 5 years in system architecture roles
- Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft .NET Framework, ASP.NET MVC, C#, and SQL Server
- Strong experience with cloud migration and modernization, preferably in Azure or VAEC environments
- Demonstrated experience designing secure, scalable, and high-availability systems
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools such as Jira, Git, and Jenkins
- Experience supporting federal IT systems, including compliance with ATO and Section 508 requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
- Must reside within the continental US
- Unable to offer sponsorship
- Experience with credentialing systems or healthcare IT platforms (preferred)
- Knowledge of VA systems, including VetPro, VistA, or VX130 (preferred)
- Familiarity with cloud-native services such as Azure App Services, Key Vault, and Application Insights
- Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, TOGAF, or SAFe Architect
