About the role
- Supports engineering design and development activities as defined by the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
- Responsible for one or more manufacturing processes or production areas, focusing on process improvements.
- Works closely with Operations, Production, Maintenance, and cross‑functional teams to identify opportunities, develop solutions, and lead projects from concept through full implementation.
- Prepares or contributes to project justifications, coordinates internal and external resources, and supports other manufacturing initiatives as needed.
- Follows standard design and development procedures, recommends updates when appropriate, and maintains strong knowledge of existing assemblies and manufacturing capabilities.
- Reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager; no direct or indirect reports.
- Minimal domestic travel (up to 5%).
- Communicates with all levels to solve problems, develop options, implement solutions, and follow up as needed.
- Participates in design and development activities to meet project requirements.
- Collaborates with Engineering, Supervisors, and Maintenance to ensure manufacturability and design efficiency.
- Participates in design reviews and provides technical input.
- Designs, develops, and improves manufacturing tools, equipment, and processes.
- Modifies existing designs to support changes in manufacturing capabilities, cost reduction, reliability, or warranty concerns.
- Provides innovative engineering solutions to resolve manufacturing and field issues.
- Creates and updates project plans; monitors progress to meet schedule and budget targets.
- Maintains strong working relationships across departments and with field personnel/customers.
- Prepares detailed project documentation.
- Continues to advance technical competency and awareness of new technologies.
- Coordinates and conducts lab or field testing when needed.
- Provides technical support to other departments as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in Mechanical of Manufacturing Engineering
- A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Point and Microsoft Word
- Previous work experience within the mechanical design field
- Previous work experience managing projects
- 3D Computer Aided Design experience (ideally Inventor)
- Machine design, production process or tooling design experience
- Mechanical, hydraulic, electrical system design
- 3+ years of relevant design experience
- Experience with steel metallurgy, welding processes
- FEA-Finite Element Analysis experience
- Extensive experience developing and improving production machines and processes
- 3D scanning and design
- Licensed Professional Engineer certification
- Familiarity with Lean and Lean Tools
