About the role
- Comprehends, interprets, and follows medical prescriptions for Occupational Therapy.
- Applies the accepted principles, methods, and procedures of measurement, prediction, and evaluation tests to assess patient’s strengths and limitations, and assists patient to achieve objective short and long term goals.
- Demonstrates knowledge of side effects and complications of services provided.
- Administers and interprets clinical occupational therapy services for assigned patients.
- Adjusts treatments according to patient's response to planned occupational therapy treatment protocol.
- Maintains accurate records of each patient's treatment, progress, and/or regression according to the Service Delivery Standard using paper or electronic systems, as necessary.
- Maintains all necessary records required to meet the criteria established by reimbursement and regulatory agencies.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient and hospital information.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationship with patients, their families, and other staff personnel.
- Participates in patient care conferences with other professionals involved in the management of cases.
- Provides patient/family education, as needed.
- Participates in planning decisions for patient's post-discharge placement.
- Makes appropriate referrals and follows up to ensure proper placement and programming of patient.
- Interfaces with vendor to provide needed durable medical equipment.
- Provides direction to Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA), departmental support staff, departmental clerical staff (as duties relate to treatment), occupational therapy students, and volunteers.
- Has knowledge of and participates in departmental and organizational initiatives for performance improvement (PI).
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of occupational therapy, receiving applicable degree or certificate in occupational therapy course of study, with Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
- Possession of a NYS license or eligibility to be licensed as an occupational therapist.
- CPR certification within first 3 months of employment.
- Preferred Master’s Degree; Clinical experience in a hospital-based setting.
- National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) Certified.
