About the role
- Provide leadership, direction, and day-to-day management for mortgage loan closers and employees supporting the closing function
- Ensure loan closing packages are prepared and delivered accurately and on time, in compliance with federal, state, investor, and internal requirements
- Oversee team production to ensure loans are closed within expected timelines and regulatory parameters
- Resolve daily escalations related to individual loans and ensure timely communication with all internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain a strong understanding of mortgage products, policies, and processes including GSE, FHA, VA, USDA, Construction-to-Permanent, Down Payment Assistance (DPA), and portfolio products
- Build strong partnerships across Sales and Operations to promote a seamless, client-focused mortgage process
- Organize and lead regular team meetings, pipeline reviews, and training sessions
- Coach, develop, and provide feedback to closing team members to support performance, engagement, and professional growth
- Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing closing team members and support succession planning efforts
- Analyze mortgage loan files to identify missing or discrepant information and collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure accuracy
- Personally handle overflow loan closings as needed to support business demands
- Ensure all workflow processes are maintained in accordance with United Community Bank policies and procedures
- Prepare and respond to audit and quality control reviews, including regulatory audits and CRA requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field, or equivalent education and experience, preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of recent mortgage closing experience
- Minimum of 3+ years of recent mortgage closing management experience
- Expert knowledge of mortgage closing operations and procedures
- Strong working knowledge of origination, processing, underwriting, and secondary marketing
- Advanced knowledge of closing agent and attorney processes, closing document preparation, and e‑closing platforms
- Thorough understanding of federal and state mortgage compliance and regulatory requirements
- Familiarity with investor guidelines for internal mortgage loan programs and external investors
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and drive accountability
- Excellent organizational, analytical, decision-making, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to resolve client service issues professionally and effectively
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Experience working cross-functionally to achieve business goals preferred.
