About the role
- Interviews prospective candidates for positions in the laboratory and makes recommendations to Manager
- Evaluates new hires' performance and conducts performance reviews on employees assigned
- Schedules employees for various lab benches and shifts
- Reviews all work performed in area to ensure completeness and quality and takes corrective action as necessary
- Discusses performance issues with employees and recommends disciplinary action to Manager
- Follows established protocols to perform all kinds of tests, including the most complex for an assigned area
- Provides guidance and consultation to Medical Technologist I’s and Medical Lab Technicians in the interpretation of highly complex or unusual test results
- Interprets and correlates clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition
- Troubleshoots testing process discrepancies
- Develops new test and quality procedures for assigned area
- Ensures that test results meet requirements of the laboratory quality control program
- Ensures preventative maintenance for equipment in assigned area
- Performs complex troubleshooting, repair, and modification of a wide range of complex equipment and instrumentation
- Instructs technicians and technologists in the set-up and operation of new equipment and procedures
- Ensures compliance with all laboratory quality and safety policies
- Instructs students in clinical laboratory operations and procedures
- Maintains accurate records of tests performed, using computer-based systems
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution
- ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist preferred
- Five years of related experience with demonstrated leadership skills
